National Junior Basketball was founded in 1983 in Santa Ana, California by Dennis Murphy.  Dennis wanted a league that that was available for all skill levels and emphasized fair play.   It was in California where Marc Lewis became involved with NJB.

In 1996, Marc's daughter wanted to play basketball and Marc decided to enroll her in NJB in Fairfield, California.  Marc was so impressed with the league that he decided to get involved as a coach and eventually became President and Area Director of the Chapter.  His daughter's teams were so successful, their All-Star teams never lost a game at the National Tournament.

Marc brought NJB to Saint Joseph in 2003 after moving back to his home State of Missouri (Marc grew up in Columbia, MO).  Marc attended Missouri Western University and played football there, he is in the Athletic Hall of Fame at MWSU.  After seeing what was available in Saint Joseph for youth basketball Marc decided to start a Chapter here.   After four successful years and many exciting games, the league has developed into one of the finest youth basketball leagues in Saint Joseph.

Every year the Chapter takes All-Star teams to Los Angeles, California to compete in the NJB National Tournament.  Amazingly, after only our third year, our Chapter brought home a Championship with our 3rd and 4th grade Boys team and a third place finish with our 5th and 6th grade boys.  We have since had two more championship teams and hope to have many more in the future.  This will be our seventh season and it has been a blast.  We believe we can continue to do well in California and we hope that we can keep taking our kids to California for the wonderful trip.

Our Chapter has become very successful because we care about the kids.  Every kid gets to play and no one is left out.  Let's face it, the only way the kids in our community can develop better skills is by playing more.  We look forward to continuing its fine tradition in Saint Joseph.

Thank you for visiting our site and we hope you have decided to register your child to play this year.
